Born in Kolkata in 1954, Bimal Kundu graduated from Government college of Art and Craft, Kolkata in painting and sculpture in 1981. National Award winner, Kundu is also the recipient of Gaganendranath Memorial Medal, Lalit Kala Akademi award, Birla Academy Award, AFA Award, HC Ghosh Award, Navonmeska Award and Rajaram Scholarship from Govt. of Karnataka.

He has also participated art camps in India, China, Thailand, Bhutan, Bangladesh. His eight feet high bird is showcased at the Kolkata airport.

His works are part of many public and private collections in India and abroad such as National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi,Birla Academy, Venkatappa Art Gallery, Karnataka. Member of the Society of Contemporary Artists since 1989, he lives and works in Kolkata.
